Finnish start-up Varjo launched its first virtual reality (VR) headset on Tuesday in a bid to capture the growing industrial market for the technology, despite slow pick-up among consumers.
The $5,995 telephone receiver are going to be oversubscribed on to businesses in industries like design, engineering and construction. Varjo has already collaborated with corporations together with airliner, Audi and Volkswagen.
The launch comes amid weaker-than-expected growth within the shopper VR market. Sales of VR headsets declined for four consecutive quarters before rebounding slightly within the third quarter of 2018, in line with IDC. Analysts say gawky devices, high value tags and compatibility problems have unbroken several devices from going thought.
"The shopper market hasn't however picked up because it was anticipated," Varjo co-founder and chief operating officer Niko Eiden told CNBC last week. "On the professional side it's the complete opposite." Read more
